About Us

ATEEC is exploring and advocating for technical education and assisting with its implementation in northern BC.

The current and anticipated shortage of skilled workers in technical fields is of great concern. ATEEC believes that effective planning will support required training and education in applied technical disciplines.

Phase I - Fall 2008
-Specific technical skills labour shortages identified through an extensive supply and demand research project and northern focus groups
-Framework for action developed and approved by ATEEC
-Lobbying for resources begins

Phase II - Starting 2009
Projects underway to:
-Design and implement K-12 initiatives to increase student, parent and counsellor interest in technical careers
-Design and implement post-secondary certificate, diploma and degree programs in northern BC, based on identified labour shortages
-Improve science-oriented graduation rates to support post-secondary and employment success
-Improve access and success rates for at-risk students in technology-related programs and careers
-Engage industry to support students through award programs, work experience and internships
